Farmers can lease their land to wind developers, who pay them about $4,000 per windmill plus a portion of the electricity that's sold

The boom in wind power is creating opportunities in some economically depressed areas of the United States. In the Great Plains states of the country, where wind is in plentiful supply, the growing number of wind energy projects is helping to supplement declining farm incomes and creating new jobs.
