MY NATIVE
VILLAGE
My
native village is in the western suburb of Hang Chow, a city famous
for its beautiful scenery. There is a little stream around the village.
On the banks of the stream, grow rows of willows. At a little distance
from the north, there rises, a hill which is called the T Hill,
on which there are wonderful trees and green grass. This is the
natural scenery of my native place.
My
native place has a population of more than two thousand people,
the majority of whom than two thousand people, the majority of whom
are farmers and some of whom are merchants and labourers, all being
diligent and thrifty.
There
are bridges and ferryboats for communication with other villages.
All of the streets are well paved and clean.
During spring, summer, and atutumn, all farmers of our village are
busily plowing and irrigating their fields. In the winter, when
the weather becomes cold and the work in the field has been finished,
they gather in the tea house, sitting beside the fireplace, gossiping
and chatting.
The
mode of their living is simple. They have no automobiles, and they
have no costly food for their meals. They observe ancient custom
and habits. They are a little conservative, but they are happy.
